TrafficIt's easy to get frustrated on the road while driving, especially when stuck in traffic or driving through tightly-packed roads in major cities. Even with all that goes on during your normal commute, it's important to keep yourself controlled and calm and not escalate any situations you may find yourself in. Driving angry could lead to more accidents.

Here are some ways to stay calm and cool on the road.
  1. Get some Sleep: No one likes rolling out of the bed after a short night of sleep. That usually carries over into your car ride to work that morning — and with less hours of sleep, you typically have less patience or care. Get a good night's rest; that can help you stay more relaxed while driving.
  2. Don't be late: There's no worse feeling than rushing through your morning routine and scrambling out the door knowing you're going to be late if you don't hit every traffic light or get stuck in traffic. Being in this state causes you to have higher anxiety — meaning you're more prone to careless driving so you can get to your destination as soon as possible. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get to work before leaving in the morning.
  3. Control your breathing: When you think the worst is happening, take a moment to compose yourself. Take a deep breath to calm yourself down and relax.
  4. Rock out to your tunes: Instead of thinking about some jerk that cut you off, why not belt along to the lines of one of your favorite songs? Of course, don't let the music be a total distraction to your driving, but listening to some of your favorite songs during a drive can help you feel less stressed out.
  5. Avoid sudden movements: Be a safe and courteous driver – don't forget to use your turn signals and don't cut anyone off. If you drive safer and more responsible, there's less of a chance for someone to retaliate against you or aggravate you.
  6. Don't engage: Some people are just jerks on the road, and there's nothing you can do to stop them. When someone displays rude behavior on the road, take the higher ground and ignore it. Responding will do nothing but cause problems.
  7. Avoid tailgating: Keep a safe distance between you and the driver in front of you, no matter how slow they may be going. It's dangerous to tailgate and this behavior can cause an accident if the car in front of you has to stop short. Instead of tailgating, safely change lanes and be on your way.
